Pope
Francis made an unscheduled visit earlier today to the Victims of Acts
of Terror Memorial on Mt. Herzl at the request of Prime Minister
Netanyahu. At the memorial to civilian victims of terrorism, Pope
Francis stated: “Terror is an absolute evil. It comes from evil and
causes evil. Never again. Never again.”
The Pope arrived at the memorial after laying a wreath on the grave of Binyamin Ze'ev Herzl, the visionary founder of Zionism.
During the stop at the memorial, PM Netanyahu told the pope the stories of the victims of terrorism and showed him the plaque in memory of the victims of the two terrorist attacks in Buenos Aires.
In addition, the prime minister updated the pope on medical treatments given to Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza in Israeli hospitals.
At the end of the visit, Netanyahu stated: "I would like to thank Pope Francis for accepting my invitation to visit the memorial for victims of terror. I explained to the Pope that building the security fence prevented many more victims that Palestinian terror, which continues today, planned to harm."
